From Ted: Continuing with my series of chef portraits, this week’s Photo of the Week is of Chef Marcus Samuelsson.
This photo shoot was different in that I was not at one of his restaurants, but met with him at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern, in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. He was getting ready for a food and wine dinner where he was the guest chef. So to allow him enough time to do scheduled interviews, get his bearings in an unfamiliar kitchen, and prepare for the evening I had a very small window to photograph him.
His engaging nature and fun spirit allowed us to accomplish the goal of creating wonderful photographs in a 10-minute time-frame.
Chef Samuelsson has left the NYC restaurant where he first made his mark, Aquavit, to pursue other ventures and to add to the Marcus Samuelsson Group of restaurants. These include the soon-to-open Red Rooster (NYC), August (NYC), Blue Parrot (East Hampton, NY) Street Food (Stockholm, Sweden), Marc Burger (Chicago and CA), and C House (Chicago).
Chef Samuelsson can also be seen on Bravo TV’s Top Chef Masters.

Truly engaging photo. If his personality is in his food, the taste must be highly spirited and the presentation handsome. Look forward to his new restaurants.
Outstanding Photo of Chef Marcus Samuelson!
I had the pleasure of meeting him many years ago at Aquavit and I must say
you really captured his personality.
