Cozy Harbor, Maine: Photo of the Week

Cozy Harbor

From Shutter:  This week’s photo of the week is a pretty straightforward shot of one of my favorite places.  There is a long debate as to the spelling of this little harbor on Southport Island.  Some say Cosy and others say Cozy.  I am going with Cozy.

Originally I took this photo simply to test my new camera, Nikon D800.  I was, and am amazed by the detail in the shadows and the low level of noise. I captured the image as a RAW / NEF file and then imported into Lightroom.  After opening up some shadows a bit and making a few other adjustments I then exported the file and opened in Photoshop.  In Photoshop I made some minor, but in my opinion significant, changes.  I created a few layers and masks to open up some shadows and bring out more detail. One area was to some of the trees to the right side of the photo.  Additionally the sky has layer mask so that I could adjust some of the saturation and colors.

Shooting details:

Camera: Nikon D800

Lens: Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 set at 58mm

ISO: 1000

Exposure: f/8 @ 1/400
